The Cure For a Bad Day in the Music Biz

on August 12, 2011 - 10:50am

I absolutely love music.  All kinds.  I love a great melody or groove or third verse.  Rock, pop, jazz, country, whatever.  We all get asked a lot who our influences are and even though the five of us come from such different musical backgrounds we found a common ground in this band.  But occasionally on the RV one of us will DJ from an iPod and it’s amazing to go through albums and songs where a couple guys know every word and drum fill and guitar lick while someone else will be hearing the song for the first time.

Passing time on the RV!

on July 13, 2011 - 8:00pm

We left Nashville almost two weeks ago and have been slowly making our way back from California.  It’s is the first time the full band and the RV have been out this far west and it’s cool to have the opportunity to put on our full show out in Idaho, California, Oregon and Montana.  We have one more show in Iowa and then we head back to Nashville for a couple days.  The scenery in this part of the country is absolutely amazing and it was my first time ever to see the great state of Montana.

Been Workin' So Hard

on June 23, 2011 - 10:07am

So a month or so ago I found myself travelling back to another time. A time of innocence and dancing and Kevin Bacon. I was really in a theater room in Nashville screening a remake of the movie Footloose. Pretty cool, right? It stars Julianne Hough and is coming out later this year, so keep your eyes out for it. We were there to get a sense for the direction and feel of the movie and the characters and see if we wanted to take a shot at writing a song specifically for the movie.

Country Strong Blog

We had an off day last week in Kansas City and decided to go catch a movie to kill some time.  So what did a bunch of dudes in a band choose?  The Fighter?  True Grit?  Nope.  Actually, we went to the new Gwyneth Paltrow/Tim McGraw movie “Country Strong”.  In our defense, we went to see the movie because there is a scene in the movie featuring a song called “Steal You Away” that I

wrote with a couple buddies of mine, The Mulch Brothers.  It was used as background in a pretty big scene in the movie and it was pretty surreal to hear Matt and Ryan singing and then see the credits at the end.

Looking Forward to Looking Back

on December 31, 2010 - 7:27pm

2010 is just about over.  It’s New Year’s Eve and obviously the perfect time to take a look back at the last year and plan for a new one.  A couple of weeks ago I set aside a day to go through some of this year’s schedule and tour dates to get ready for the band’s 2010 year-end meeting.  However, I got about 25 minutes in and suddenly turned into Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation…stuck up in the attic lost in old videos and photos and memories of days gone by.  I don’t know how it is for you, but I can recall the rough spots from last year pretty easily.
